When Scandal (1989) came out, there was a lot of fuss about how attractive Joanne Whalley was. I thought she was pretty. I was less impressed when I saw the photo of Christine Keeler that Whalley re-created. Keeler just wasn’t all that to me. Personal taste. Terence Stamp mentions seeing her dancing in a nightclub in one of his autobiographies, before the whole Profumo affair. He describes Keeler as moving like a panther, which inspired me to reassess her. I read a family member saying how damaging the whole scandal was to Keeler and how she was portrayed in a distorted manner. When I was studying to be a Certified Dental Assistant, we had to do a module on radiography (radiographs are popularly & inaccurately referred to as X-rays) and the definition of distortion is when parts of an object are unequally magnified. The description makes me think of Edward Munch’s Scream 🐶
