My hands found their way to his shoulders, gripping the fabric of his coat as he deepened the kiss, his other hand tracing the curve of my waist.

The tension that had been building all evening snapped like a string pulled too tight. He guided me back gently, until I felt the cool branches of the Christmas tree brush against my arm. The scent of pine mingled with the warmth of his body, grounding me even as I felt myself melting beneath his touch.

“Not here,” I whispered, glancing toward the plush rug in front of the fire. A teasing smile played on my lips. “Let’s make Christmas morning something to really remember.”
